Update Monday April 13th,2020

Monday, April 13th, 2020

It’s been awhile since I last wrote. I am still battling this condition and lately it has gotten worse. For example, I have always found relief in going to bed, I never got the burn while sleeping. Recently. I have had to get up in the middle on the night and take bicarb because the pain was so intense. This is bad news and makes me even more determined to find a solution.

The digestive tonic from Whole Foods didn’t help at all. I am continuing to take baking powder (bicarb) in warm water if the burning gets intolerable. I tried a Probiotic that I found that is supposed to help with gastritis. It’s Physicians Choice 60 Billion Probiotic. After a couple days I was experiencing increased gas and more heartburn so after about 12 days I had to quit that. Another $20 down the tubes. I tried drinking lactose free milk to see if I could alkalinize my gut some. It seemed to be promising for a few days until I told my wife that I thought that maybe I was onto something good. That very day I got a bad attack and had to take bicarb again. This is freakin’ exhausting.!

Yesterday I got some Colostrum-LD made by Sovereign Laboratories. I had a teaspoon before bed and one again this morning mixed well with warm purified water. It is supposed to regulate the G.I. tract and bring the system back into homeostasis (balance). When I look on the internet for things to try, I continue finding all the things I have tried already. It gets very frustrating. I figured I would try the Colostrum-LD simply because it’s something different and promises some benefits. I will give it a month as long as it doesn’t exacerbate the problem.

I will keep trying to find the cure. I have no choice. I surely don’t want to die of stomach cancer like my grandfather did! What a terrible way to go!

After 2 weeks of taking the ‘tonic’ I have had no success. I love the way the Licorice, Fennel, & catnip taste but they are having no positive effect on my gastritis. That was $80 wasted, but at least now I know and can write this one off.
As I perused the digestive aisle at the local Whole Foods store yesterday, I noticed an item on sale for 50% off. It’s Herbal Revolution’s Digestive tonic. This is mainly ACV but with other added ingredients (all organic and non-gmo). I tried it yesterday and it seems that the burn is less frequent. I didn’t get any heartburn while sleeping which is a new thing with me. I will report again in a week or so to let you know if this is real or another placebo effect.
I will not give up, there has to be a cure!

Since I last wrote my symptoms have remained the same. I get heartburn mostly when I am driving but it hasn’t been too bad. I could live with this but I still fear damage to my stomach and possibly getting an ulcer or stomach cancer so I will continue to try and find a way to stop the burn. My latest endeavor has been through an Australian herbalist named Richard Whelan. Here is his website:
Richard has an interesting cure for gastritis that I am doing now. It involves 3 ingredients, Licorice, Fennel, and catnip all in tincture form. I bought these from the Hawaiian pharmacy through Amazon for about $80. I know! Expensive! Just what I wanted to do is try another cure! I am doing it anyway. I have taken a couple teaspoons each day since Sunday but at this point I can’t say if it is curing me. I can say that it seems like the burn is less. The mix tastes very good so it’s easy to take.
 Hoping for the best!

I gave up on everything and have been keeping the heartburn at bay by drinking hot, unsweetened green tea when I need to. The burn hasn’t been too bad lately. I know there is an answer to this problem but I am finding it difficult and expensive to keep trying things. I am open to suggestions if anyone wants to help. I believe that the problem is twofold, my upper biome is compromised and my stomach lining is thin in places. I am at a loss as to what to do next.

I bought Garden of Life digestive enzymes with probiotics and took 1 at mealtime 3 times a day for a week. Then I doubled the dose for the next week because I didn’t notice any benefits. I then added the digestive bitters but still got bad heartburn. I then began getting itching again and it reminded me of when I was drinking a lot of ginger water. I checked out the ingredients of the digestive enzymes and sure enough one ingredient is ginger. I quit taking them today and I quit the bitters also.
I plan to try fresh mint next. What a bitch!

So after a month of taking L-Glutamine I have noticed no improvement at all. I gave up for awhile, simply sipping a hot beverage, usually green tea when the burning starts. I have also started taking 1 tsp. of baking soda when the burn gets unbearable. I won’t do this right after eating because I need the stomach acid for digestion. I don’t get heartburn after eating anyways. It does wonders to alleviate the burn but I know it isn’t the answer.
At this point I don’t know what to do. My gastritis isn’t that bad but it does hit at inconvenient times. I need to explore more herbal remedies. The quest continues!

I had hoped that the digestive bitters were the answer. It’s been a few weeks now and I don’t notice any improvement. I started with the Urban Moonshine standard spray and then got Swedish Bitters. I took a teaspoon of that twice daily for a week but my gastritis got worse so I cut back to a few sprays before or during a meal. Yesterday I took a couple sprays about 10 minutes before eating and then after my salad started burping like crazy. The idea is that the bitters make my stomach release the correct amount of acid and enzymes to digest my food. The burping shows that digestion is not happening properly and the food is fermenting and causing the excess burping.
I ordered L-Glutamine yesterday. I am concentrating on fixing my stomach lining after suffering some severe heartburn while driving over the weekend. Driving always gives me heartburn. It’s so weird! I don’t feel nervous while driving, I relax and enjoy it but the burping always starts when I get my speed up around 55-60 mph. I usually have green tea in a thermos for times like that. I sip the green tea and it helps a lot. I also notice that when I burp while driving I always get an attack right after. I then drink more tea and then burp and then burn happens again. It’s a vicious cycle and I hate it.
I will update you on the success of the L-Glutamine. 1 to 2 grams per day is supposed to heal the stomach. We will see. I know that the L-Carnosine was supposed to be a miracle cure too and it didn’t help at all. This is getting frustrating!
